Home Learning Spring Term

Welcome to the Olive Class home learning page!

We have created this page in preparation so that learning can continue at home. We hope you will find everything you need to continue all of your hard work! We have put together a list of useful websites and resources which you can access at home to continue and progress in your learning during this time.

The following websites are currently offering free-access to their home-learning resources:

Twinkl (Home learning packs available)

BrainPOP (subject-specific activities and games)

Teacher's Pet (you will need to create an account, but this is free to do. New resources added each week)

Chatterpack (lots of links for different subjects)

The LGFL website also has an extensive range of resources which the children can access using their LGFL login.

Below you will find more detailed guidance and some documents with more information about what we are learning in each subject. There will also be some activities and ideas for you to do whilst you are at home.

Science

In Science children our topic about human and animal bodies and consider similarities and differences between them. We are also looking at what animals and how we can classify them.

In this topic we are also learning about our 5 senses and what we use them for.

Here is a great video to help you learn your senses:

Maths

Currently in maths we have be learning to add and subtract by regrouping into tens and ones.

Children find it easier to add and subtract single numbers which is why we are teaching them to make a group of ten or split the number into tens and ones first.

See the PDF below for some addition and subtraction examples and activities using this method.

One of the most important basic skills for children in year 1 to know is their number pairs up to 10. If the children are confident in these, they will find all other concepts much easier.

There are many ways to practice number pairs. In class we play a game called Hit the Button!

If you follow the link below it will take you to the game page.

Then all you need to do is click number bonds> Make 10 > Play!

There is also a song to help the children remember their number pairs:

English

In English we have been looking at fairy tales. We have read a mixture of traditional fairy tales and looked at their key features.

Look at the document below for the key features of a fairy tale:

In English we have also been focusing on using adjectives. We use adjectives to make our descriptions more exciting!

In the document below you will find lots of adjectives - see if you can use any of them in your writing.

You can try and write your own fairy tale, thinking about setting, characters and including the key features of a fairy tale.

Remember to use finger spaces, capital letters, full stops and some adjectives in your writing.

Practical Activities
