Home Learning Spring Term

Welcome to the Cherry Class home learning page!

We have created this page in preparation so that learning can continue at home.

In the documents below you will find more detailed guidance about what we are learning in each subject.

Below, we have put together a list of useful websites and resources which you and your child can access at home to continue and progress in their learning during this time.

The following websites are currently offering free-access to their home-learning resources:

Twinkl (Home learning packs available)

BrainPOP (subject-specific activities and games)

Teacher's Pet (you will need to create an account, but this is free to do. New resources added each week)

Chatterpack (lots of links for different subjects)

The LGFL website also has an extensive range of resources which the children can access using their LGFL login.

In science this term children are learning about :

Living Things and their Habitats

They need to:

  • explore and compare the differences between things that are living, dead, and things that have never been alive
  •  identify that most living things live in habitats to which they are suited and describe how different habitats provide for the basic needs of different kinds of animals and plants, and how they depend on each other
  •  identify and name a variety of plants and animals in their habitats, including micro- habitats
  •  describe how animals obtain their food from plants and other animals, using the idea of a simple food chain, and identify and name different sources of food.

The links and activities below will help them with this:

Activity 1: Alive or Dead
Take a look around you. How many living and non-living things can you see? Make a list of living and non-living (dead) things. If you can go out for a walk see what you can find in the park. You can use this sheet to record what you find or make your own one like it.
Activity 2: Habitats

Think about some different habitats you know about or have seen. What kind of animals and plants might you find there. Why do you think they live/grow there?  Draw a picture or make a collage of a habitat including animals and plants you would find. Write describing words (adjectives) around your picture to describe the habitat e.g. damp, warm, dark, light, dry.

If you can go out in the park or garden see what habitats you can find.

Activity 3 : Food Chains

Draw some food chains. Try and think of some food chains for different habitats.

If you can create some food chains using the picture cards below. You can print them and cut them out or just draw. Them yourself.

Phonics and Spelling

It is important for the children to carry on practicing their phonics. Below are links to some phonics games you can play at home.
