Dear parents and carers,
I hope you and all your families are all keeping well in these times of change. Our focus has definitely shifted as we learn to appreciate life and our health, our families and each other. Thank you for the positive feedback about home learning resources we have provided. Children, parents, families and all schools have had to learn how to work in a new way and make the best of our current situation. I believe we will come out of this situation stronger, more unified and loving. One change to tell you about is we have had to partially close St Luke’s because we have no cleaner so the few children whodo have to be in school are now in Moreland with a few of Moreland children whose parents work is critical to the COVID-19 response.
I do suggest that you consider giving children some time off from doing home learning during the next two weeks so they have a sense of a new term beginning on 20th April. A semblance of routine at least is so important to children.
Teachers and leaders are in the process of creating next term’s learning which we will share with you during the first week of term. This includes work on the website and physical packs that you will be able to collect when they are ready. We also hope to launch a forum blog which will enable children to have more contact with their teacher and with one another. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or ring the school office if your child is not able to access work provided or if you need support and one of us will get back to you. We are looking at other ways in which we can have more contact with children for example through videos- more about this after Easter. Cyber security experts have issued a warning of a security flaw in video conferencing platform Zoom which I know some families have been using. Apparently hackers can gather email account passwords by clicking on a link sent over web chat.
Please see the school website for changes we have made to our Child Protection Policy in response to Covid-19. We are hoping that last year’s panto ‘Dick Whittington’ that we saw in Basildon will be put on Town Gate Theatre’s website which will be a great treat for all of us to see.
I really hope you all stay safe and well and that you have a happy Easter together. I would be really grateful if you would share the letter I have written to your children.
Very best wishes,
Executive head teacher

Hello lovely children of Moreland,
I really hope you are all keeping safe and well and that you are getting used to doing your learning at home. This is something that will have to happen for a while until we have stopped the spread of coronavirus. We don’t know how long this will take so we must all be patient. Lots of children in this country and in other countries are not able to go to school at the moment. It could be that the school cannot open until September. If that is the case, we will celebrate our school re-opening and year 6 we will still arrange to do something special with all of you- please don’t worry.
I know that you have been working hard at home doing your home learning. You or a grown up you live with are welcome to email email@example.com if you are having any problem with your log-ins or if you are finding anything difficult. Remember to persevere and to have a go yourself first. I am sure I don’t have to remind you to be cooperative and helpful at home. Many of your families and parents are probably not teachers therefore please be patient if they are not able to help you sometimes. Learning from home is a new way of learning that you and all of us have to get used to now. Learning from home is still learning, especially if you do all the work your teachers and families have arranged and if you continue to read every day.
After the Easter holidays we will be arranging different ways you can have contact with your teachers including blogging. We are also working on other ways you can safely have more contact with each other and share what you are doing at home.
In the meantime- I hope you all have a lovely Easter with your families. This is my blog avatar which does look a bit like me? I too will be part of the blog so please look out for me. I will be touch with you all in the new term. Keep safe and well and be kind to one another.
