Knowledge Hunt

This week we learnt all about the events of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii. Pompeii was a Roman town in southern Italy. On 24 August 79AD was buried under volcanic ash and rock following the eruption of the volcano, Mount Vesuvius. Most of the people who lived there were killed. The town was excavated 1,600 years later and the remains of many items, buildings and artefacts were found.

This week we went on a knowledge hunt around the playground to find out all about the events that happened that August,  how the city was before the eruption and what we could learn from what was found there.

Straws Workshop

Today we had an engineering workshop ran by Dan and Eve from City University. We looked at what it means to be an engineer. We then had a go at creating an earthquake proof building. We tested them to see whether they could hold a book then we improved them.

National History Museum

This week we went on a trip to the National History Museum! We really enjoyed exploring the different exhibitions and artefacts. Whilst we were there we took part a workshop about Earthquakes and Volcanos where we were the scientists deciding whether to evacuate before an eruption. Thankfully we were able to make the right decision and saved the civilians from the volcano!
