In your daily hour outdoors try to stop for a minute and in silence listen to the sounds around you.
What sounds can you hear?
If your child is going to Reception in September:
Play the game ‘I spy with my little eye something beginning with ‘a’…’ (remember to use the sound and not the letter name).

Be quiet in the home and listen the different sounds that you can hear in your house.
What sounds can you hear?
If your child is going to Reception in September:
Look around your house for different objects beginning with the sound ‘a’.
Wednesday 6th May 2020
Do you remember the different sounds that you heard inside and outdoors?
Can you imitate and copy those sounds?
If your child is going to Reception in September:
Remember the song from Jolly Phonics ‘Ants On My Arm’. Can you sing it with the actions?
Try to write the letter ‘a’ on paper in different sizes and using different writing tools.
Thursday 7th May
Fill a bottle or sock with noisy materials (e.g. rice, peas, coins, marbles). Ask your child to shake the bottle or sock and identify what’s inside. Extend by talking about the materials inside e.g. Where would we find coins?

Thinking of the sound ‘a’ can you think of objects, food, toys that begin with that sound? e.g. I know ‘apple’ begins with ‘a’…
