Solving Word Problems

This week we are going to solve one and two-step word problems on multiplication and division. We will be using model drawing to represent a problem situation and to solve challenging word problems.

Lesson 1 (4th May)

Multiplication: one-step word problems.

Read question 1 and remember to refer to the formula in the blue box to help you. Remember, the bar indicates the number of items and not the person.

Then, try to do question 2.

Complete example 3 and 4. You don't need to print off the sheet, just write out your answers.

The word 'double' has the same meaning as 'twice as many as'.

Remember that in division the number of items in each group is found by dividing the total number of items by the number of groups.
