Rhyming
Throughout the course of daily activities encourage the children to think about and play with rhyming words:
I know a word that rhymes with cat, you need to put one on your head and the word is ... hat.
This can be used for all sorts of situations and with some children’s names too:
I know a girl who is holding a dolly. She is in the kitchen and her name is ... Molly.
As children become more familiar with rhyme they will begin to supply the missing words themselves.
Children going to Reception please also keep practicing rhyme. Can you also find objects around the home beginning with ‘i’?
Thursday 4th June 2020
Place different instruments or object with characteristic sounds inside a bag. Ask your child to play an instrument / object from inside the bag without looking? Can they guess what instrument / object they are playing by listening? Can you guess what instrument they are playing? Take it in turns to listen and guess.
For children going to Reception - can you recognise the letter ‘i’ between others? Can you sound it out? Can you copy it on paper?

Playing an instrument or using objects for rhythm can you play/tap out a song/tune you know and get an adult to guess the song/tune? Get someone to do the same so you can guess the tune!
For children going to Reception - recap the ‘i’ sound. What words do you remember staring with ‘i’? Can you write the letter ‘i’ on someone’s back with your finger and get them to guess what letter you are writing?
