Today we had a fantastic staff at Sir John Soane’s Museum. Rhiannon gave us a tour around the museum teaching us all about Sir John Soane himself and his knowledge of rocks. After we had learnt about the rock cycle, the different types of rocks and their properties we did some investigating ourselves. 

Igneous rock forms when hot lava cools and hardens. Igneous rock can be all sorts of colors and textures. Some igneous rocks are dull and boring, but others are beautiful! 

Sedimentary rocks are made when sand, mud and pebbles get pressed together using heat and pressure they become rock. 

Metamorphic rocks are formed from other rocks that are changed because of heat or pressure. 

We then carried out an experiment looking at various rocks to see if they were permeable or impermeable. By dropping water on our rocks we could see if they let the water run through or if the water sat on top.
